Last class we discussed about a very famous actor and entertainer named
Charlie Chaplin. He was famous for the film The Gold Rush that he played a
character Tramp. I thought his character was a bit socially awkward
because he wanted to fit in like everyone else and to of course find
love. This of coursed had a lot of humor in the film which is why
the film was too popular.
2) Find a related article and summarize the content.
http://www.sierracollege.edu/ejournals/jsnhb/v1n3/chaplin.html
This article quoted "Charlie Chaplin was the most famous entertainer in the world." Chaplin and his tramp character is on a journey to Alaska to find gold and but unexpectedly he finds love also. According to the article, the movie should be counted among Chaplin's best and most enduring works. The article stated that even though the quality of the movie was not at its best, people tended not to notice that because it had them distracted from the hilarious scenes.
3) Apply the article to the film screened in class.
The article was so appreciative to Chaplin and his work. I didn't think that his comedy was going to be so recognized but now I see that people really liked his comedy. I knew when I saw the film that people were going to like him because he was very funny and it was such an entrainment to watch his film. People enjoyed the film because they had something to laugh about. Audiences were missing the comedy in films and The Gold Rush made a home-run. The article supported my opinion for this film. I didn't seem to care so much about the quality of the movie but I was more into the funny scenes they shot.
4) Write a critical analysis of the film.
Again I
didn't expect this film to be that funny and I was wrong. Chaplin really knew
how to make people laugh and I understand why he was called the most
famous entertainer in the world. Now I know that there are such
entertaining films to watch back then. Comedy is something I prefer in movies
and this particular film really stands out why I enjoy comedy films so
much.
