The Godfather

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
      In class we watched The Godfather and before we watched the film we discussed why the film of 1972 was the up coming of Hollywood Renaissance and color TV. People appreciated the film because it related to them, they needed something real to watch. What was also made the film so likable was that it didn't push on World War ll, but focused on the mob family that made the audience want to see them more and more. It was one of the film that made people actually want the "bad guys" to win. Even though the Corleone family were killers and there was a lot of violence in the film, people wanted to see more of the Corleone family fight for their power.

        In this article It discussed The Godfather as a whole movie. Robert Ebert the author of this article discussed the novel and the film.According to the article, Mario Puzo's novel was so remarkable because it told the story from inside out. Ebert stated that the movie, that was based on the scripted, had the same feel as the way the novel was written. According to Ebert, Francis Ford Coppola the director of The Godfather understood the the true meaning of mobsters and gang wars that the Godfather portrayed. Ebert discussed that the main Don Corleone was not the main focus of the film, but his youngest son Michael Corleone was who later becomes the next godfather.He said that the film hit a home run it was exactly what audiences need to see in The Godfather. 

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class. 
         Everything that was written in the article I have already known. It had some good points for instance, the name of the film is called The Godfather, but the godfather is not the main focus in the film. While I was watching the film I started to understand that the importance of this movie was Don Corleone hands his power to his youngest son Michael.I agree with the article, I don't thing that there was anything missing in the film that people need to see.

4) Write a critical analysis of the film
        The Godfather is one of the best films I have ever seen. I loved absolutely everything about this movie. It is not going to be the last time I will watch this movie it's a film that will never get old in my eyes. I enjoyed the film so much that I didn't want it to end.And people didn't want this movie to end because it was so good so the created The Godfather part ll and part lll. Although I watched and enjoyed both films, I still will rate The Godfather number one. I'm not someone who particularly watches violence movies, but there was something different about The Godfather that made my eyes never leave the screen. It is one of the greatest films made and I will always appreciate the brilliant work Francis Ford Coppola has done.

The Graduate

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
        In Class we watch a film called The Graduate. During this time people were not happy with the production in movies.Instead people were staying home and watching what was now put on TV. They needed to bring back people who enjoyed watching films, but because things were showing up on TV no one really went out to the theater. The only way to bring them back was to create gimmicks to attract audience back to watching films.

       I have read an article that discusses The Graduate and the director Mike Nichols. According to Adam Schenck the author of this article, he said The Graduate brings "the whole equation." This means that the film brought everything you can think of. He said that the film was "the greatest films ever!" I agree with Schneck I thing that this film was wonderful. It had just enough comedy to make you laugh as well as romance to make your heart feel warm inside. According to the article it also stated that The Graduate has the best sound tracks ever. It is a must see film and was the new beginning of the new coming of age movie.

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class.  
       After reading this article I thought nothing less then after I watched the film. The article had everything I agreed with in terms of the meaning of the story and how the movie was in general.The article also made me understand the true story of The Graduate. For example, towards the end of the article it discussed one of the best scenes in the movie when Ben and Elaine were sitting on the bus with freedom and finally going into adult hood. I didn't think of that when I was watching the end of the film, but after reading that I now understand the meaning of that last shot.

4) Write a critical analysis of the film.
       The Graduate was such a delight movie to watch. I enjoyed every part of the film. It is such a classic movie that I believe everyone should see. One of my favorite parts of the film was when Ben said, "Mrs. Robinson are you trying to seduce me?" I think its a memorable line that no one will forget. Its not only funny, but it's romantic, sexy, mysterious, seductive, and mesmerizing. Mike Nichols did a fantastic job making this film and bringing back an evolution of comedy and romance put together that people will forever love.

Casablanca

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
      
          In class we watch the film called Casablanca a 1942 movie that was a romantic film. The film was during the year where WWII began. I don't think that people thought the film was going to be so wonderful because it was during a war. People later found out that the film was a masterpiece and was one of the top 10 love films in American Film Institute.

       The classic and romantic film Casablanca 1942 is a masterful tale of two men wanting the steal one woman's love in a love triangle. The story of political and romantic espionage is set against the backdrop of the wartime conflict between democracy and totalitarianism. The article stated, rather than dazzling the eye with eye-catching visuals and histrionic acting, it seduces the viewer by creating lust to catch the audiences attention.  According to the article, Casablanca is one of the greatest films of the 1940s. Its romance, mysterious, and suspense scene left audiences speechless. 

 3) Apply the article to the film screened in class.
      The article supported my view a 100% on Casablanca. The scenes that have made Casablanca such a classic romance film was not easy to create Produced by Warner Bros. at the height of the Hollywood studio system, Casablanca embraced what is now known as "invisible style." I agree with the article I think that the film was a great success. The article said everything that I thought, it pointed out how it was a masterful tale and it supported my opinion of the film in every way.   

4) Write a critical analysis of the film. 
      In class I was a little excited to watch Casablanca because I have heard so many good reviews about the film. It was just as I expected it to be, the film was very romantic its almost like a dream. Its filled with love and there is nothing more I would ever want out of a film. I enjoyed watching the film and I would definitely  recommend this film to others. It was my first time watching this the film, but it will most likely not be the last. I look forward into watching this film in the future and appreciate the amazing work Michael Curtiz has done to film history.

Citizen Kane

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.
       Orson Welles is an actor, writer and director that created a hit film called Citizen Kane. This movie made a big step in his career. Welles directed some parts of the film his way and became a success. I believe that the film would have became even better if he was able to direct the entire film his way. He was only 25 when he did this movie and that shows a lot of dedication he has put into this film.

       In this article it states that this film is one of the miracles of cinema that in 1941. It states that it is a first-time director, hard-drinking writer, an innovative cinematographer, and a group of New York stage and radio actors were given the keys to a studio and total control, and made a masterpiece. “Citizen Kane” is more than a great movie, it is a gathering of all the lessons of the emerging era of sound. According to the article, Citizen Kane was brilliant because it had enchanting performances and clever lighting tricks the movie stood out to be a masterpiece. 

3) Apply the article to the film screened in class. 
     The article stated that Citizen Kane was a fresh, sophisticated, and classic masterpiece, and is probably the world's most famous and highly-rated film. Now that I have read this article I realize that Citizen Kane was a great movie. After reading this I got a true understanding what the film was meant to do for their audience. Even thought I didn't fully understand the meaning of the story, after going through the guidelines of this article I now see why people loved this movie so much. 

 4) Write a critical analysis of the film
      I'm not a fan of the traditional black and white movies. I find it difficult to really get involved in the story when the movie is not in color. I realize that I should not be byes against black and white films. A lot of them are outstanding films and I have learned that citizen Kane is one of them. I have to admit that I was a little lost into the story, but because of the characters lines and the beautiful sound effects I really started to enjoy the film. It's a wonderful film and I'm glad that I have giving black and white films a chance for me to enjoy.

Gone with the Wind

1) Relate what was discussed in class or the text to the screening.

        In class we watch a very famous film called Gone with the Wind. This movie so I heard is a classic romance mixed with tragedy, adventure and mystery. So the main characters are Scarlett O’Hara played
by Vivien Leign and Rhett Butler played by Clark Gable. Butler is in love with Scarlett but Scarlett is too naive to realize that she too is in love with Butler. She thinks that she is in love with Ashley Wilkes but he doesn't love her he loves Scarlett's sister instead. The famous line "Frankly my dear, I don't give a dame." Is said by Butler at his last goodbye to Scarlett. We discussed that that line had to be said over and over till 
they were satisfied. The movie was also sued for using the work "dame" as a curse word. Overall this movie was a bit success and now is one of most classic romance movie of all time.

      The success of Gone with the Wind raised the profile of independent producers in Hollywood. By the time the film came out, there were 20 independent production companies working through the major Hollywood studios, paving the way for a future in which the independents would eventually come to dominate American film production. Gone with the Wind was the longest, most expensive and successful Hollywood film made up to that point in time. According to the article, it inspired the studios to create bigger and more impressive screen epics that would produce some of Hollywood's biggest hits but also make the industry risk financially.


3) Apply the article to the film screened in class 
       The article made good points about the film. There was a lot of issues in the making the film that didn't know about. It mentioned that it was one of the longest film made in that time, but because of that it became a big hit. Gone with the Wind the novel is so much different from the film. After reading the article I understand that the making of the film was not easy but with their hard work and terrific actors and actress the film became a classic un forgettable story. I realize that it is not easy making a film that has so much into it and also that is taking place in World War ll. Back in the days it was difficult to make films when so much was going on during that time already. I have a deeper understanding of what it took to make this film now.

             Gone with the Wind I believe was a fantastic movie. I thought the film was very long, however, I enjoyed the movie very much. I thought that some clips in the movie could of been shorter, but overall I thought they did a great job. I didn't like how Butler left Scarlett crying at the door I wish they ended up together. I also I didn't like how their daughter died that was very sad.  Besides of the sad parts in the film, I enjoyed Gone with the Wind very much. I look forward into watching the film in the future.
